Twilight is the culmination of over a decade of the fun, friendship, and boundless creative energy that flows between renown house-music maven Lady Alma and electro-funk afficianado Mark de Clive-Lowe. The nine track set (which is extended by a pair of remixes if you purchase the LP from Bandcamp) delivers a consistent line of luminous, spirit-lifting energy as Alma‘s vocals command the room in a sweet and charismatic way while Mark‘s soulful house arrangements seem to wrap the scene in a near euphoric post-disco brilliance. Outstanding moments on the album include some lush and lovely spiritual praise called “Hold Your Head Up“; the pulsating title track, “Twilight“, which matches the driving energy of early 90’s disco-house and adds a sophisticated Philly-Soul sheen; some blue sky gliding breeziness called “Believe“; a crazy catchy mix of tumbling broken-beat and gold tinted neo-soul called “Gotta Be A Way“; and my personal favorite, “Light of Love“, which is gumbo dish of 70’s soul, synth-laden jazz-funk, and soaring diva-house.
