Back in March, singer Falana dropped her Chapter One EP and set free an expansive yet energizing work of art that, in my opinion, masterfully mixed the ballady strengths of black jazz and contemporary R&B music with the rhythmic energy found in traditional Afrobeat and post-Janelle Monáe indie-pop. The set is concise and lacks any moments of filler, but previously released “Ride or Die“ and the steadily rising “Give Into You” stand as highlights in small field of brilliant moments. In support of the EP, Falana embarked on a short 3-country tour, with stops in Nigeria, Ghana, and Rwanda.
