Brooklyn’s own Lessondary crew switch things up a bit and offer fans a rich set of short and satisfying instrumentals to vibe on their offering, the POUNDS album. While the rhymes are notably absent on this album, the members of the musical collective successfully manage to inject a ton of personality into the various beats. We get filling doses of uneasy broken-beat intensity on Jermiside‘s “Wild Turkey” and Elucid‘s “DJ Black Cowboy“; some steady rocking, funk & soul chops from Brickbeats‘ “Watch My Chain“ and Donwill‘s “Gone Love“; and jazzier, laid-back gems by way of “Aeon‘s ‘Over Labrador” and Che Grand‘s “LikeDis“. An overall solidly hitting offering with something for everyone. And while a collection of beats & breaks from the members of this team is a welcomed thing, the Lessondary doesn’t leave fan’s entirely wanting in the rhyme department. Their recent “Lessondary & The Kids Sing About Dope” single delivers a live-as-it-gets rhymes session that features Von Pea, Rob Cave, Elucid, Che Grand, Donwill, and Jermiside on the mic.
