Boot Camp Click champion Tek (whose birth name I only just learned is Tekomin) gets about the business of giving fans of grimey “Brooklyn hardrock” rap music something to joyride to with the newly dropped Pandemic EP. In keeping with the ready-for-war vibe of his previous work with Smif-N-Wessun – as well as his solo work – Tek sounds confident in his spot as a hip-hop chief while also sounding fiercely driven to conquer new ground on the battlefield of rap. Album highlights include an amped-up punch to the jaw called “Don’t Make Me Do It” (which features Dark Lo and Drawzilla), a cigar smoke laced street theme called “Eastside”, and an electrically charged opening heater called “Mountain Top”. There’s also a gravelly bonus cut called “BKLYN Shootouts” which gets a cinematic video workup from director Francisco “ShotByCisco” Perez and is exclusive to the Bandcamp version of the release.
