Afro-Caribbean “bad-gyal” Ithiopia taps the visual team over at Pearlz Film to help bring her single “Osun River” to life. Intermingling steamy bedroom scenes with imagery that is symbolic to the Yoruba people and their religion, Ithiopia affirms the idea that our feelings about love and sensuality should be openly expressed and held in high (if not spiritual) regard. Lagos-reppin’ emcee Racy and singer/model Seyifunmi help our river-goddess get her open-minded message across as they not only assist her in the sound-booth, they both stepped in front of the camera for the video shoot.

Being a man, I’ll admit that it took me more than a few viewings to let the sensuality wash over me so that I could really focus on the symbolism. But once I did, I noticed myself getting hung up on this feeling of being disrespectful for feeling so carnal about something that comes from a spiritual/religious place. “That is to be expected…Osun will get that reaction” Ithiopia offers when speaking about the erotic qualities of the song and its video. “It was important for me to tell Osun/Oshun’s story through my eyes and what it means to me” she adds – making me a lot better about myself.

The sweltering production follows the video-single “Girl Like Me” from earlier this year, and both tracks are lifted from Ithiopia’s most recent album, Rude Girl Zone.
