New sights and sounds created by the trio of Cellus Hamilton, BlessThePen and Trubl3 with the release of the group’s debut album The Row Men. Even the most casual listen to the sharply spit lyrics reveals a company of men who center their rhymes around their faith, even as their music stirs up heavy slapping, rhyme cipher vibes akin to the Clear Soul Forces collective. If you’re the type to be thrown off by the idea of Christian rap ( which is kinda weak if you think about it ) but enjoy it when an emcee commands a beat with a heavy dose of passion in their voice and talent in their writing, then this album is a must-buy. And while this may just be the heathen in me, but this project doesn’t feel out of place alongside the sky high stack of secular records making up my music collection. Album highlights include the stripped down but stirring “The Bridge“, the hazy and wavy “On the Beam“, a hot-stepping anthem called “You Got Served” (which gets a notably hedonistic, eyebrow-raising video treatment from director Ray Sytes), and the low-end heavy album opener “Righteous Feelings“.
