“Red Handed” is the euphonic new single from singer TYSON that casts a moody yet warm spell on its audience. Supported by a swirling score that feels as if producer Oscar Scheller made a downtempo instrumental then gave it a “chopped and screwed” rework, our soloist sounds as if she is swimming in the stars with her soft notes. At first, the song may lead you to believe that TYSON has been posted in the part of a slighted woman who is taking it especially hard that her man is inattentive when it comes to her. Yet a deeper listen to the lyrics quickly reveals an assured woman who isn’t willing to suffer in silence just to keep from rocking the boat. I think it’s the way that TYSON seems to melt into the music surrounding her that makes this track such a wonder.

TYSON also gives us a different kind of zoned-out statement with the song’s official video. With the help of director Amy DMB and producer Hannah Turnbull-Walter, she takes center stage in a piece that uses shadows, saturated colors, and grainy camerawork to create a bittersweet sense of nostalgia. On both fronts, TYSON and her team at Ladies Music Pub ( the women-centered supportive community and creative collective that the singer helped co-found in 2015) have fashioned something special with this single.
