Eternity, the debut EP from R&B artist Chinara, sees her drilling down into the emotional terrain that comes with being in relationships and trusting your heart to others. Over the course of 4 songs, Chinara establishes herself as a performer who knows how to display vulnerability from a position of strength. The song “Miss Me” moves in a mournful kind of way but the young vocalist works a feeling of empowerment into the song from the very start. She doesn’t hide the fact that a past breakup affected her deeply, but she sounds confidently assured when she sings “I don’t want you anymore/ I thought I’d never close that door/ You don’t know me like before/ I’m the one that they adore.” The starkness of the track definitely captures that quiet strength that comes with finally coming to terms with a break up. “Eternity“ is the album’s title track and offers a beautiful touch of new-school blues to the album. It’s an open-hearted and ultimately heartbreaking plea that carries the emotional punch of classic torch songs into the 21st century. “Change in the Waters“ is a sweeping ballad that becomes almost operatic as it builds towards its apex and release. The set closes with “The Way“ – a strumming number that feels inspired by songs of introspection and redemption from generations past. For such a short set, Eternity finds Chinara dipping her pen into more than few different musical inkwells and balancing strength and vulnerability on her own terms.
