“Roses” is one of two new tracks released by Toronto emcee Fame Holiday – alongside the single “Made Me”. It incorporates a trap-influenced sound but still manages to maintain a melodic and relatively mainstream appeal. The song itself is a celebration of that feeling when hard work begins to pay off and applauds the idea of “receiving your roses” while you’re still alive to enjoy them. The blending of a stripped-down, drum-machine-driven beat (from producer Sydney Johnson) and a sing-songy lyrical style gives the song an authentically infectious appeal. There’s also a satisfying guest appearance from fellow Toronto-based rapper Broco – with both artists sounding as slick together as a seasoned duo.
