Besides referencing some slang that I haven’t heard in decades, “New Skeezer (Hot Sauce)” from the Richmond VA emcee Koncept Jack$on and the Toronto-based production team Bane Capital is a rapid-fire freestyle track that showcases the young emcee’s esoteric rhyme style and brash charisma on the mic. Tag teaming the track with Cali legend MED, the two wordsmiths fire off sharp-tongued and witty wordplay like a duo who have been building off each other’s energy for years. The beat has a low-end focused quality to it that makes for a layered and lo-fi sound that recalls both emcee’s early entries in the rap game (see the Mutant Academy and Lootpack discogs for more examples). So while Koncept and MED trigger verses at a breakneck speed, Bane Capital back up the pair with some muffled yet melodious loops.
