As an emcee Ice Meez is focused and sharp and his performance on the track “Real” is thought provoking as he dissects the idea of being sincere in your actions as opposed to the sort of shameless clout-chasing that typifies today’s fame-hungry society. As cerebral as that may sound, the track itself is a fine example of the sort of warmly soulful boom-bap that has made emcees like Skyzoo and Oddisee so well-loved by fans. The production is dominated by crisply snapping drums and a gently filtered soul loop and Meez‘ airtight flow remains swift and spontaneous from start to finish. He maintains a stoic persona as he spits his message about honesty in word and deed, doing so with a raspy passion and neighborhood lyricism. Dope work.
