The tune “Dodging Bullets” by singer Pisceze is a slow, sultry song with slow motion synth effects and lowly sung (almost mumbled) vocals. On the very mellow sound-piece, a quiet female voice muses on a relationship that doesn’t make her happy, but one where she’d like to stay anyway because it’s safe and comfortable. The song is both sweet and a little sad, as it kind of paints a romantic picture but you somehow get the feeling that the relationship isn’t likely to last. Maybe I’m overanalyzing the lyrics and my interpretation is completely off the mark. Be that as it may, “Dodging Bullets” is a great number. It is intimate and simple, but also powerfully affective – like listening to an old friend talk about her heartbreaks.
“Dodging Bullets” is the latest single from the Toronto-raised singer of Korean and Japanese descent. It follows previously released tracks “Play It Back“ and “Daddy“ from 2021.
