I got to hand it to the duo of Ex-poets (bassist/producer Jordan Brooks + vocalist Colin Killalea). Their single “So Bad” has a great mixture of sound, ranging from neo-soul, r&b, and hints of that classic r&b funk. The switch up also took me aback as I was not expecting it. I really wanted to groove to this track. There was nothing left to the imagination here. In fact, it fueled it. It gave everything it was supposed to give.
“So Bad” actually left me at a loss for words because I wasn’t even sure how to describe the emotions I felt while listening to this track. It was definitely a challenge trying to put them into words. I mentioned earlier how I wanted to groove to this track. I meant it because I could truly FEEL the music and as a result, my body moved on its own. You can sense the passion in Colin‘s voice. The song would not have been complete without those kinds of vocals. I feel they have the power to really emit their emotion into their music and into the listener. One thing’s for sure, Ex-poets are here to give you that real soul music and they’re hitting that mark and not giving you anything less.
