Speech Debelle‘s “Atlantis” is a kind of meditative rap song that deals with a lot of traditional themes from everyday life in modern times. The lyrics are about the constant battle we all fight to keep ourselves in sync with the world and our loved ones. In general, to find peace of mind and happiness in this increasingly hectic world where everything happens at breakneck speed, it’s necessary to retain one’s connection to what’s truly important. While Speech sounds reserved and calm in her delivery, there’s a sense of urgency in her rhymes. She’s telling a story and conveying a message, but she doesn’t want to force it on us. It’s up to the listener to decide whether the message resonates with them. The production is fantastic as the beat is warm and smooth like an early morning sunrise, but it’s not so slow that you’ll fall asleep while listening. It’s the perfect balance of chill and energy and a wonderful harbinger of what we can expect to enjoy on her forthcoming Sunday Dinner on a Monday project.
