In “Gotta Know,” singer Alexus A. explores the feelings of dejection and sorrow that can arise when a relationship ends and one party isn’t ready to move on. Alexus‘ voice is light, warm, and confiding even as she sings about her growing feelings of abandonment and the heavy weight of her loneliness. We can almost see the amount of space that her memories of this man occupy in her mind. Her voice is full of longing as she sings about wanting to know if his new love treats him as well as she did and if he misses her at all. Alexus’ openly anguished lyrics never let the listener forget that this is a one-sided story and that the man in question has moved on. It’s a beautiful song about feeling left behind and has a great deal of barely restrained emotion in it. On the whole, this is an impressive R&B ballad from the young St. Louis-based singer.
