Object Heavy‘s “For The Better” is a slice of instant-vintage excellence that captures a pure and infectious funk-soul energy that’s impossible not to groove to. Over a chunky bass line and infectious rhythms, lead singer Richard Love tells his lady love that he knows about her cheating ways while he is out on the road and feels that she needs to wallow in her guilt for a while before they try to move on. His voice is smooth, soulful, and sophisticated as he releases his simmering frustration to a hip-shaking groove that really helps to wash down the pain. As Love‘s vocals amp up the bluesy tension and the band kicks into a higher gear, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the soul-stirring beauty of this tune. This band has a perfect blend of retro-cool and modern-day swagger that’s stylish enough for the cool crowds, but fun enough for those who just want to let loose and enjoy the music. All said, this is probably one of the most enjoyable heartbreak songs I’ve heard in a long time and I have no doubt that it’s going to be on repeat in my headphones until the next one comes along.
