She comes across as clear-eyed and even a bit empathetic as if she’s saying to the person who is making her feel this way: “I can see that you’re going through some things, but THIS is not okay.” Shea gives herself and the listener permission to not be held hostage by other people’s problems and to protect their own energy. Simply stated, “Anxieties” is a compelling piece of soul music. It’s a good foundation for what I hope will be an evolving artistic career, and I’m excited to see where Shea Givens goes next.
