Chuck Strangers‘ latest single “Venison” features the producer/emcee rhyming alongside rapper Navy Blue and creating an eerie and dense sound piece. The production of the track is minimalistic, featuring a moody piano & strings loop over some subdued drum chops that add to the overall cinematic feel of the song. I mean, the beat sounds like it could’ve been lifted from the closing credits of an old Brian de Palma VHS flick. Both Chuck and Blue supply intricate and thought-provoking lyrics, as both men delve into old memories and themes of self-reflection and survival. “Venison” is a more restrained but equally deep follow-up to Strangers‘ first single, “Prospect Park West“, from his forthcoming The Boys & Girls EP (available May 12th). More thoughtful than it is thumping, this track will have you thinking about your own journey in life and how you’ve grown from it. Give it a spin and let the words and the beat sink in.
