Chidimma – goin thru things (feat. IAMRTB) [Single + Video]

Chidimma‘s debut single “goin thru things,” from her upcoming EP Love, Chidimma, hits like a quiet storm. IAMRTB‘s production sets up a space where Chidimma‘s voice, rich in emotion, tells a tale of love gone sour.  It’s a tune that doesn’t skirt around the tribulations of love, but rather meets them head-on with a quiet yet unyielding resolve.

The East Londoner’s voice serenely takes the lead as the song breezes into gear. Featuring traces of remorse and a sprinkle of optimism shining through, there’s a tangible sense of heartache in her performance. As her vocals glimmer, they ride atop the subtle chords of the keyboard, creating a genuine connection with the listener.

Her singing is openhearted, sweet but not sugar-coated, and it hits you right in the heart. “In my room, talking to God, asking ‘Why’s love like this?‘” – her words cut deep, echoing the confusion and pain of lost love. Nathan Okan takes the reins as the director of the music video, and he captures the sum of the song. Chidimma, surrounded by white linens and roses, balances fragility with strength. And the eventual shift from indoor brooding to the freedom of a garden visually depicts our songbird’s journey from heartache to hope.

As the song nears its end, Chidimma switches gears and starts delivering a heartfelt monologue in her London accent. This unexpected turn gives it an unpretentious vibe, transforming it into a sincere, one-on-one exchange. In “goin thru things,” Chidimma wears her heart on her sleeve, sharing a piece of her soul with the world. This song has staying power, hitting home for those who’ve weathered the storm of a breakup. As a musical appetizer, this piece has left me really looking forward to the main course of this singer’s debut album.
