Mia Rae x Flipper – ink stains [Single]

Mia Rae‘s tune “ink stains,” created with the help of producer Flipper,  really speaks to what its takes to push through the hard hits life throws at you. They’re both from the UK, with Mia on the bass guitar and Flipper laying down the tracks, bringing something genuine and heartfelt to the mix.

The song tackles the idea of battling with your inner demons and past hang-ups, trying to break free from them. When Mia hums, “I been through some rough roads/So I sink into my flow,” in her lovely falsetto, it’s something anyone who’s had their share of hard knocks can get. It’s about finding that outlet or that thing that lets you breathe easy and move past the numbness.

What stands out in “Ink Stains” is the top-shelf singing and soundscapes that this duo have put together on this bluesy-funky brio. Mia Rae‘s voice is sweetly soft but still slinks itself around you like clouds of smoke in a crowded night spot. And on the production side, Flipper taps into an airtight groove and adds on a hit of headnod energy that keeps things interesting.

While it takes you through the lows, this track isn’t about staying down; it’s about discovering something honestly uplifting. The solos in the song give us a break to reflect and feel the depth of what’s being said, all without saying a word.

If you missed “ink stains” when it first came out, you definitely owe it to yourself to sink into its wavy brilliance ASAP. While you’re at it, check out their just-dropped STARS (Aren’t Hard To Understand project for more dopeness from this duo.
