AHSIA – BLACK WOMAN [Single]

AHSIA, (pronounced “uh-sigh-ah”) Philly-born and Vancouver-raised, hits a home run with her latest track, “BLACK WOMAN.” Produced by Braeden “Pockets” Rangno, this joint is live and lovely, with tight drums and warm, plucked jazz bass setting the scene. The tune kicks off with a smooth bass loop, then AHSIA’s honey-sweet vocals glide in, accompanied by a grand electric piano and a touch of smoky Hammond organ. Dawn Pemberton’s backing vocals, Francis Naluz on bass, and Richard Brown on drums add to the satisfying, church-like crescendo that builds towards the end.

The lyrics of “BLACK WOMAN” roar with pride and confidence in being a melanated matriarch. AHSIA’s voice, steadfast and sweet, commands attention without a hint of feeling forced. Lines like, “I’m a black woman and I like it like that / Got my people right behind me and they always got my back,” strike deeply, delivering a message of self-love and strength. The revolutionary tone of the track comes through loud and clear in its genuine and earnest words.

The music neatly connects smooth rhythms with soulful, earthy tones. The drums and bass lay down a rock-solid foundation, allowing the electric piano and Hammond organ to slide in, bringing layers of elegance and adding that sweet touch. As the backing vocals soar and take it up a notch, a powerful, uplifting vibe just fills the room.

BLACK WOMAN” is a full-on celebration of identity and strength. AHSIA, an activist who has always stood up for marginalized folks, pours her heart and soul into this track.  The regal and almost operatic beauty of this piece grabs you right away. It hugs you tight and lifts you high. Simply put, it’s a stunning, dynamic performance that hits you deep.
