MidaZ The Beast – Where The Sidewalk Ends [LP]

On his new album Where The Sidewalk Ends, Orlando‘s own MidaZ The Beast spills a mountain of rap lines all over a stream of moody, lo-fi loops from producer Delle Digga. From start to finish, MidaZ sounds effortlessly at ease as his mind unpacks raps in a raw, stream-of-consciousness sort of way and maintains an impressive “fxck yall, I’m doing this for me” spirit. A rock-solid release that brings to mind the best work from MF Doom or Planet Asia. Standouts include the static-filled and soulful Gore Tex; a funky and coolly strutting gem called Tony Dorsett; a relatively amped-up (but somehow still chill) heater called White Sand Beaches; and – one of my personal favorites – a psyched-out head trip called Married 2 the $.
