While summer doesn’t officially end until the latter part of September (at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere), once kid’s start going back to school and people start talking about the coming flu season I usually get the feeling that the season is drawing to a close. Fortunately, this year has been a little different because 1) time is fluid in a post-COVID 19 reality and 2) musicians are continuing to make some great summertime sounds. You can now add the duo of U.K. vocalist Pri and the beat-making Polish expatriate Padre Tóxico to that list as their new “Summer in L.A.” single perfectly strolls between airy relaxation and a chilled blast of downtempo grooviness. Our songbird keeps it light as she chants about starting fresh in the land of celebs after a recent breakup. Which is understandable since “The Padre” makes it hard for anyone to hold onto any kind of malice on such a breezy, feel-good instrumental. Pri’s voice is light, angelic, and floats lovely on top of the track’s atmospheric synth pads and plush kick drums.
