This has to be one of the most delicately rendered “fXck-off” songs ever recorded.

On the surface, the single “Space” from singer/producer Shadi G rises and dissolves on an easy flowing, electro-soul wave that is sweet-tempered through and through. The singer’s fine-spun, gossamer-like voice conveys a sense of softness and warmth when it first hits your ears. When coupled with the breezy synth-soul of Shadi’s production, it’s easy to assume that the song will be about yearning and a new romance. But you soon realize that the Swedish sound provider’s lyrics are actually about her reclaiming her power and space from a toxic relationship. Instead of loudly raging out in defiance, she slips into her position of power calmly and purposefully. Kind of a nice twist on the boldly stepping “I’m through with you” songs that R&B music is famous for. Bravo Ms. Shadi. Bravo.
