For whatever reason, I’ve always liked the idea of musical couples – especially when their music is rooted in soul or hip-hop. With the group T H R O N E we’re treated to one such couple in the creative combination of poetic emcee Hayatheus (pronounced “hi-ah-the-us”) and his magnetically-voiced missus YVHIKV (pronounced “yuh-hey-guh”). The pair live up to any creative expectations that I may have unconsciously placed on them with the release of two absorbing singles called “Dawnseye” and “Orochimaru“. The former is a free-flowing piece that swings between YVHIKV‘s sultry neo-soul coos and Hayatheus‘ revved up rhymes and lines. The latter delves into more gothic grounds as the pair trade cerebral rhymes over a haunted arrangement from producer Blaize Wareham.
