New music from singer Mona B. with the release of her single “There Is No God“. As controversial as that title may seem to some, the song isn’t a rebuke of religion or religious followers. Instead, the Quebec-based jazz-vocalist gives us a beautiful performance that feels both meticulous and impulsive. The meticulous moments come by way of the brilliant way that the young’s singer lands notes across a wide vocal range. Whether she’s singing in a more sultry tone or sailing above the clouds in a more high-flying timbre, Mona brings a dexterity to her performance that makes her words feel like notes being played on a very familiar jazz instrument. Having said that, Mona also manages to introduce an impulsive spiritedness to “There Is No God” as her voice ripples and undulates like a belly dancer all over the track. An excellent introduction from the adventurous jazz singer.
