In 2006, singer Leela James appeared on the R&B scene as a fully-formed, powerhouse belter in a surprisingly petite package. Since those momentous early days in her career, the L.A. soulstar has made fans all around the world with her deeply felt, southern-soul-influenced singing style. Her latest offering, “Complicated“, is an impassioned plea from a woman who yearns to move past the relationship roadblocks that have sprung up between herself and her man. It’s a theme that has been covered a countless amount of time before but still lands with an earnest, straight-from-the-heart feel when delivered by a master-hand like Ms. James.

“Complicated” is also given a visual run-down by director Chris Scholar – who taps in with a story inspired by the John Singleton flick Baby Boy. The song, which is brought to us in part by James’ company SheSangz Music, is the first single from her next planned album (which is tentatively scheduled for a summertime release).
