Blak Emoji – Swooning On You [Single]

New music from the band Blak Emoji with the release of the single “Swooning On You” – a snaking R&B piece that adds a cerebral sexiness to its story of “love at first sight”. Front man Kelsey Warren sings in a fine-spun falsetto and adds a serpentine flair to the song’s skin-tight groove. Surprisingly (at least to me) his performance feels up-close and carnal without being explicit. In fact, it took me a few replays to realize that, while this song radiates a ton of suggestive heat, it never really curves into anything X-rated. Choosing to sing in such a breathy way gives Kelsey’s delivery a sultry touch that lands somewhere between Ron Isley in quiet-storm mode and Van Hunt in his blues-funk bag.
