Coline Creuzot – Sometimes [Single]

To me, the new single “Sometimes” by singer/songwriter Coline Creuzot plays out like a somber and somewhat broken-hearted creation that gives the listener insight into the honest emotional state of a person that is still reeling from a breakup. After giving the song a few spins, I felt as though our leading lady had taken on the role of a woman who hasn’t been able to move on from her ex – even going so far as to purposefully show up in places where she knows that she’s likely to run into her former flame. The lyrics and Coline‘s delivery pack enough emotional weight for the music to feel indicative of a real-life experience.

However, after reading a few other reviews of the song and speaking with the singer herself, I now believe that I have completely misread “Sometimes”. “The overall message of the song is ‘if you love someone then let them know’. The song is about really missing someone and being honest about it. A lot of times we don’t tell people how we feel for so many different reasons” the stunning Texan (who now calls L.A. home) tells me after I let her know what I took away from her beautiful ballad. She continues, “It was written in a way that so many people can connect to. Whether you lost someone and are missing them, haven’t seen a certain someone in a while, a break up, etc…”.

So while my interpretation of “Sometimes” may not be exactly what Coline Creuzot intended when she wrote and performed it, I feel that my take-away still rings true. And for those of us who are experiencing heartbreak or have just come out of a relationship, this release is not just a poignant R&B song, it’s also a reminder that we can all feel a little lost to loneliness sometimes.
