This album summarizes a lot of what it is that fans love to hear from these two artists individually – street-certified lyrics, straightforward flows, and tense, sample-laced beats. Both lyrically and musically, Wreckage Manner is unapologetically hardcore. The pair work really well together, similar to the combination of Prodigy and The Alchemist but with more aggression and energy. Styles P doesn’t try out a bunch of new flows or approaches to emceeing, but his tried-and-true style is exactly what this collaboration calls for. With years in the rap game behind him, hearing his streetwise swagger is just as gratifying as it is when he’s with his LOX partners in crime. Havoc‘s presence on the mic is just as grim-faced as it ever was, and that plays off of Styles‘ relatively more animated verses especially well. As far as the beats go, Havoc handles production on all 10 tracks and brings that gritty boom-blap sound that has made him such a respected creator of that battle-hardened thump that Queens hip-hop music is noted for. Standout cuts include the old-school dipped “Pay Me in Cash“, a stalking killer-cut called “21 Gun Salute“, a sleek change of pace called “Good as Gold“, and the gothically-charged “Nightmares 2 Dreams“.
