Stereotypes about black people are not a new invention; they are arguably as old as written history itself. All over the globe people of other races have used some of these stereotypes to justify acts of cruelty, dehumanization, and even slavery. Worse yet, there are many black people who not only go along with racial stereotyping, they try to use it to their advantage – becoming shameless caricatures of themselves. In the song “JiggaBoo” by Canadian emcee Sinzere, we are given a track that takes a searing look at black society, black culture, and the trope of the shuck & jivin’ black entertainer.

Admittedly, that’s a heavy topic to tackle in one song, but Sinzere manages to keep the mood satirically acerbic and darkly humorous. She uses her platform to spit raw rhymes that mock those who would sell their souls for a little bit of money and fame. All in all, “JiggaBoo” offers listeners a smart and sharp commentary on race – one that sets itself apart from so many other rap tracks.
