Singer/producer Good Jester (aka Frank Heaney) has a real ear for putting together a great track, and his new single “Deep End” is a shining example of his skill. The song’s relaxed yet pensive air and masterful use of remedying jazz instruments give it a beautiful cool-out vibe, and Good Jester‘s enigmatic yet easygoing vocals have an effortless charm. While the song’s lyrics don’t offer listeners an easy-to-follow narrative, they do subtly explore the idea of protecting your peace of mind even when you find yourself wading into the deep end of life. Good Jester savvily crafts a mellow landscape that invites audiences to take a soul-searching journey with him – one that is as thought-provoking as it is enjoyable. Minneapolis-based emcee pfreaky adds to the song’s poignant vibe with his verse, which is full of sober-minded musing and a heavy dose of wit and wordplay. And while my review probably makes “Deep End” sound like a really heady experience, it’s important to note that the track is one hell of a bop. Good Jester and pfreaky deliver a melodic mix of sound and substance that is sure to have listeners playing this on repeat all day.
