MoonTree‘s latest single, “through your eyes,” is a mesmerizing fusion of ambient soul, nu-era-jazz, and easygoing electronica that showcases the duo’s ability to create a diverse, yet cohesive, sonic journey. As the brainchild of young multi-hyphenated polymaths Ben Cuomo and Jaya Franceschini, this nice and trippy, “throw in a little bit of everything” concoction left me feeling more than a little rapt by its spacey and soulful vibes – like listening to a new piece of brilliance from Georgia Anne Muldrow or Coultrain. The song’s emotions echo clearly with the listener, as Jaya‘s wayfaring vocals express regret and longing… or a least that’s what I’ve taken away from her performance. She seems to be lamenting the fact that she may never experience special moments with a very special someone. Ben‘s production is equally impressive, blending spacey electronica with downtempo beats and futuristic jazz. The result is a truly unique sound that perfectly complements Jaya’s emotive performance. From the opening notes to the final crescendo, “through your eyes” is a sonic journey that will leave you wanting more.
