KJ! – Boo [Single]

I don’t know how KJ!‘s “Boo” flew under my radar this summer, but when it comes to discovering good music, it’s always better late than never. Produced by caveman, this Salt Lake City native is serving up a blend of groove, wit, and bravado that’s both chill and magnetic. The track is a mid-tempo head-nodder with a filtered guitar loop and a kick-drum-n-handclap beat that’ll have you hooked in no time flat. It’s simple but addictive, and the chorus is crazy catchy. 

The mood of “Boo” is chill but confident. KJ!‘s voice is youthful yet laid-back, smoothly riding the jazzy boom-bap beat. The track’s title seems to slyly nod to how KJ! might not spend all of his time making the scene, but when he does pop up, he makes sure that his impact is felt. “Man I pulled up like boo!/ I’m sorry, been a ghost, lost a lot, a little loose.” He touches on the fact that he’s been through a few lows, but now he’s in his element and is ready to let the world bask in the glow.

A dope track that definitely isn’t a one-off; he’s already dropped an LP called “Scabs,” and an EP called 801 Demos that show he’s in this for the long haul. And if “Boo” is a sign of what’s to come, you’ll want to keep KJ! on your playlist.
