Fortunato x Sean One – Long Road [Single + Video]

Long Road by Fortunato and Sean One is a relentless track that’s as hard as nails. The song is a soundstorm of booming drums and aggressive cymbals marching beneath a cloud of gin-soaked piano melodies and saw-toothed guitar riffs. Culled from their latest project, Blue Collar 2, this hard-hitting number lays bare the hardships and hurdles that have molded Fortunato into the man and artist he is today. It’s the kind of heavy-stomping, ghetto-rock type cut grabs you up with a clenched fist, making it damn near impossible to turn away.

From the get-go, Fortunato is upfront about who he is. Opening lines “This the truth boy/ I do what I do boy / I’m never gonna change/ Stay the same/ I ain’t a new toy,” are his manifesto. He’s not here to pander to the crowd or put on a façade for clicks and likes. No gimmicks, just struggle-filled truths, like recalling friends that he has lost to drugs and the emotional toll that those loses have taken: “How can I hope to cope coke and lean got me exposed / Just like an open seam / Broken hearted for the departed I know I’ll never see.” It’s a true-to-life push back against the sort of self-aggrandizing “sex, drugs, and money” cuts that seem to tip the scale of hip-hop in just one direction. With “Long Road,” Fortunato and Sean One deliver a track that’s layered and impactful, a must for anyone who digs hip-hop with depth.
