From the moment Teefa comes in with “Problem,” it slaps. It is a boom bap bombshell; a shot fired with a beat that bangs and a skin-splitting flow. Teefa has arrived to snatch her crown and she’s not seeking permission or approval to do so.
She opens things up by paralleling her dominance on the track to Aaron Donald’s gridiron grit: “The way I’m quarterbacking / And I’m running with this bread / Is equal to Aaron Donald / When he coming off the edge.” A punchy sports metaphor to start and a hint in these very opening sentences that this is a woman of infinite drive and a girl with a plan.
And having a rock-solid work ethic is something that the Chi-city go-getter really drills home. “Bitches be upset, it must be something I said / I be jumping in the booth while they be jumping in the bed,” she spits, reminding everyone how she stays on her grind while others sit back and take a breather. So while others are sleeping, you can trust and believe that Teefa is up in the studio working on her craft.
On the chorus, she delivers pure boss lady attitude, spitting, “My name…Teefa / Bad bitch…look I came to give you ether with the classics.” No ghostwriter here—she has confidence, talent, and purpose to the hilt. “My mindframe take you deeper than the last bitch/ You better be good at math cause I’m a problem,” A muthafuckin’ problem indeed.
The production from LT is spot on, a minimalist masterpiece that makes use of muted drums and subby bass to sketch out a dimly lit expanse of sound. The song has an eerie quality to it built off of lo-fi drum programming as well as a haunted piano; all of which goes so well with Teefa‘s “mama don’t take no mess” mic presence. “Problem” (which is taken from the recently dropped 3 EP) is the infamous Teefa vying for the top spot with a newfound show of force and the same ole bravado in every bar.
