With her single “LISTEN,” 19-year-old Mannheim native Ceycey declares her powerful presence. Known as Celia Maria Groß when not performing, she co-produced “LISTEN” with Hannes Pries, coiling retro-futuristic synths and hardrock elements into a powerful piece of music.
“LISTEN” opens with striking synth stabs and lush electronic strings that give a nod to classic Vangelis. These set the stage before Ceycey’s own flute melody flutters in, spiraling down into a gritty rock anthem. Johann Janssen’s drums hit hard with thudding kicks and sharp snares, while the buzzy Moog bass adds an eerie, looming presence.
Ceycey’s vocal range is on full display—she moves from sultry and breathy in the hooks (“Can you hear me?/Can you hear me say this? Yeah”) to a powerful, almost growling intensity on lines like “What’s your excuse?” and “Say it with your chest!” Her voice captures a mix of irritation, defiance, and triumph. At the same time her lyrics confront her audience fiercely, demanding honesty and respect.

The song’s energy finds a perfect visual match in the Frederick Williams directed video that amplifies its intensity and impact. Set in a gothic church, CeyCey stands out in her white Nikes, baggy jeans, and a glossy red snarl that matches her fierce attitude. The monochrome crowd contrasts sharply with her vibrant performance, especially when she sits at a black grand piano, illuminated by golden light, adding an unexpected and yet absolutely welcomed touch of elegance.
Soul stirring rock never sounded more badass and beautiful than it does on this cut. This song is a triumph in every sense, melding grit and grace in equal measure.
