Rosita x P.U.R.P – Jody (feat. Akeem Ali) [Single + Video]

With Mississippi’s P.U.R.P., Rosita, and Akeem Ali at the helm, “Jody” dives into the sometimes messy world of no-strings flings. The plot’s simple yet draped in humor and irony: The head-turning Rosita is in a relationship but sees Akeem’s character on the side. When her main man starts slacking, Rosita hooks up with her other side piece, P.U.R.P. And while Rosita and P.U.R.P have a crystal clear understanding of how things are and the games being played, Akeem’s character ends up acting a little salty over Rosita’s two-timing of their already sketchy setup.

The beat rolls in smooth and midtempo, anchored by plush kick drums and lo-fi snares, with subtle clicks and snaps sprinkling a bit of spice to the entire affair. The bass hums quietly and low in the mix, giving the track a cool edge. Adding to it all is a simple, almost mandolin-like loop that threads through the song’s core, paired with tinkling effects and pitched-up “oohs” and “ahhs.”

Rosita’s sing-rap flow is soft-spoken but clear, oozing a laid-back vibe. P.U.R.P.’s deep Southern twang meshes well with Akeem’s raspier, animated delivery. Rosita and P.U.R.P. lay down their verses with chilled acceptance, while Akeem’s heated tension adds a funny touch of high drama, especially in his comical, clueless rant where he calls out Rosita for acting shady in their already shady affair. The video shows P.U.R.P and Rosita enjoying a playful and snuggly hangout at his crib while Akeem fumes and stalks outside. The climax hits when Rosita’s main guy arrives on the scene with a “Cheaters”-style crew busting in on Akeem and Rosita, as P.U.R.P. watches from his doorway and tells them all to kick rocks.
