Wahyo – Somebody [Single]

Wahyo’s latest single, “Somebody” featuring Lato 5ive, brings that unmistakable Flint, Michigan vibe with a twist of smooth swagger. The track opens with an R&B sample, stripped to its mids and highs, giving it that vintage, tinny touch like you’re hearing it on an old-school record player. Lato 5ive’s hook sets the stage with lines like, “Kissing you, holding you/ fuck them other girls, baby, I’m coming home to you,” delivered with a silky smoothness that’s hard to resist.

Wahyo slides in with a chilled, no-filter vibe, rhyming about true bonds and no-nonsense love.  His bars juggle love and lust, painting a picture of free-spirited intimacy and having a dedicated focus on his girl that brushes off old distractions. The beat’s got that early-Timbaland feel, heavy on the kicks and echoing snares, with warbly electric piano chords adding a nocturnal, almost eerie vibe perfect for those late-night drives.

Singer Lato 5ive’s vocals are natural, bringing a cool confidence to the track. His choruses stick in your head, wrapping Wahyo’s candid lyrics with a smooth, old-school R&B warmth.  The production (which I believe comes to us courtesy of Wahyo himself) is tight, with reverb and delay adding an expansive feel that makes the track pop.

“Somebody” sits right in that “a lill something for everybody” sweet spot, serving up R&B-tinged rap that’s tailor-made for both the ladies and the fellas. Wahyo‘s got a winner on his hands with this third single, teasing us with what’s sure to be an album with even more crowd pleasers.
