Ruth Koleva – All The Guys [Single + Video]

New sights and sounds from Ruth Koleva courtesy of the single “All The Guys” and its accompanying video. Sleek and sardonic, the plainspokenly ethereal single allows Koleva to haul a group of misogynistic critics over the coal as an overcast synthscape bubbles up in the background. What’s sort of striking is how a song can come across as so insular while also managing to feel tenderhearted. The song’s crystalline vocals are hauntingly beautiful and communicate a feeling of connection between the singer and the young woman being targeted by “all the guys” and their hypocrisy. Glinting like nighttide, the hypnotic  “All The Guys” holds sway completely during its three minute run time where similar emo-soul numbers simply loiter impassively – as if trying to avoid conflict.

Taking a trip to a magenta-tinted world filled with David Lynch-like scenes, Koleva and director Joro Peev translate the cool, almost dispassionate, power of the single into a dreamlike vision for the official video. Matching the ghostly aura of the New-York-by-way-of-Bulgaria vocalist, we watch as a ghost-like Ruth moves in a world that subtly seems to overlook the fact that she’s even present.
