New music from Nicole “Lady” Wray courtesy of the single “Games People Play” – a quietly profound, throwback-soul opus that features gently swaying production from Leon “El Michels” Michels. In the song, our Lady sings softly to a downhearted soul while offering some clear-eyed wisdom about the fickleness of young love. From end to end, Wray’s voice is warm and comforting and highlights her power for packing a lot of emotional power into understated moments. Here her soft center-soprano has a healing quality to it and allows her to deliver a record that rivals some of the best work to come out of Motown during the early 60’s. When all is said and done, Lady Wray has given us an outstanding single that really builds on the retro-soul sound that she has been working in throughout most of her post-Missy Elliot/Goldmind, Inc singing career.
